Ben Charles

Baritone

Ben is a baritone from Guildford, Surrey, currently in his 3rd Year of The Royal Academy of Music as a First Study Classical Singer and a Second Study Composer. Ben has experience in a wide range of vocal genres, early on as a contemporary musician and musical theatre singer before training under the likes of Janet Haney, Alexander Ashworth and James Cheung at The Royal Academy as a classical performer.
Ben has recently performed as the leading roles of Don Giovanni and Don Alfonso in scenes from Mozart’s ‘Don Giovanni’ and ‘Così fan tutte’ in Vittorio, Veneto with Musicalink.
Following this, Ben has held a lunchtime concert in St. Sepulchre, Holborn, performing works from these Opera’s as well as more diverse repertoire spanning through Finzi, Wolf and Fauré. Earlier this year Ben competed in his first vocal competition in the Joan Chissel/Rex Stephen’s ‘Robert Schumann prize’. This was encouraged by his previous experience as the reserve for the ‘Junior Kathleen Ferrier competition’ in his second year of study.
Through his youth at King Edwards Witley as a Countess of Munster Exhibitioner,Ben gained opportunities as a soloist to perform around Italy, including St. Peter’s and St Mark’s Basillica in which he found his passion for classical singing.
